To some, it is called a flight club while to others it is referred to as a flying club but however you may choose to call it, a flying club is a specially prepared for those who hold dreams of flying a plane or learning to become pilots whether as a full time career or as a hobby. A flying club is essentially a flying outfit or an organization which has provision for flight training facilities and equipment and has registered members that regularly attend flight training sessions at the club. Having talked with many flying club members, it was discovered that a large number of them had been harboring innate dreams of piloting aircrafts someday in their lives but for constraints like cost and affordability of enrolling in flight schools, they would have since been on their first choice job.
Flight lessons on a small scale either as a precursor to attending a flight school or for leisure, are being taught to those who are registered with flying clubs. There are usually flying sessions carefully integrated into convenient schedules for each member depending on the time they have available to attend. Mini jets and small size airplanes are used to teach members with tutors supervising flight exercises. It is a good leisure time out for those who are not afraid of heights or better still, those who want to learn to overcome their phobia for it. There are flying clubs that offer other flight services like supplying members with resources directly beneficial to flight activities e.g. pilot supplies, flight simulators and related software, flight gears – helmets, jackets, suits, headphones – and different types of flight equipment which aid flight exercises.
Some flying clubs offer value-added services to their dedicated members by allowing them to lease their min-seater planes for private activities such as island camping, family vacations and small scale flight activities. However, it is based on a contract or agreement that stands to equally benefit both parties even in the event of unforeseen circumstances. It may not necessarily be airplanes that are used for such purposes, flying clubs also have aircrafts like helicopters and Cessna jets that are customized to fit the exact needs of every purpose which makes it easier for a registered flying club member to use due to the club’s terms of lease for their steadfast membership and loyalty. It is important to note that some flying clubs are just there to provide invaluable support and reliable information on various types of aircrafts to those who may be interested, but these category of flying clubs are not too common.
Many members for obvious or personal reasons, prefer to start with flying clubs as either a vocation, a hobby, a pastime activity or to build their confidence in preparation for attending a full-scale flight school where they can get certified as pilots or flight personnel; after the duration of their training. North America and Europe both have dozens of flying schools where people go to actualize their flight aspirations. Canada has great Flying Clubs in Calgary, Victoria, Edmonton, Ottawa and Pacific. In the United States, there are among many flying clubs, Alameda Aero and Concord Flying clubs both located in California, Blue Horizons Flying Club in Ohio, Toledo Flying Club in Washington and in North Carolina, Wings of Carolina.
Britain has its own version of Flying Clubs in Lancashire and Exeter as with many flying clubs in Asian countries. They all provide almost the same type of flight training services with only little differences. For example, some of the flying clubs are equity-based while others are not. The equity flying clubs allow members to have a share in the club’s assets which include its planes, while it is totally different in the non-equity oriented flying club. All that is required of equity club members is a monthly charge to cover expenses which include the general cost of the club’s maintenance. The good news however is: you have a wide range of options to choose from before signing up with any flying club. Also, both club types have great rewards for their members who remain a part of the organization’s development throughout the period of their membership. It is a fair reason to make you look carefully before you leap.
