You may have heard it so many times, that flying an airplane is fun where you can control hundreds of passengers and other members of the flight crew, thus putting you “in charge.” But really, have you ever thought that flying a plane might be fun and do you want to be able to fly an airplane? If you answered yes to these two questions, then you need to go through a flight school and get certified. Whether you decide to pursue a career as a commercial or a private pilot, you should be prepared for anything, from disasters in the air or on the ground to hijack situations, because as in most jobs, anything can happen. A warning before you enroll in any one of the numerous flight schools available is, if you get tired easily, then a pilot’s job is not for you, as it is a very demanding job.
If you are considering becoming a pilot, you should consider the variety of flight schools that are available to you. When searching through the schools, you should first consider what type of pilot you would like to become. You might consider becoming a commercial flight pilot or co-pilot. To do this, you will endure a lot more training than if you were to become a private pilot. The reason for the more intense training is obvious: you will be holding the lives of many more people in your hands and you will be in control of a much larger and more complex machine if you become a pilot of a commercial plane rather than if you were to fly a private plane.
To become a commercial pilot, you must first complete some intensive classes at one of several flight schools available; which take a fairly long time to complete. The next step would be to start obtaining your required flight hours, which are a certain number of hours that are needed to be able to get your pilot’s license. While earning these flight hours, you are entitled to hold a pilot’s permit, which is like a driving permit, where you need to fly with a licensed pilot, or flight instructor. Now, once you have earned the necessary amount of hours to get your pilot’s license, you will be able to fly on your own and pursue a career as a commercial or private plane pilot.
Looking at all the processes involved, choosing a flight school is not an easy task. After going through the available flight schools both off and online, you may find it difficult to make up your min. At this stage, it becomes difficult to separate the actual flight schools from the rest. This is apart from the main criteria such as the school’s location, types of planes used in training sessions, and availability of financial aid to defray the huge costs of attending flight schools.
In choosing a flight school, one of the things you have to be careful about is advertisements promising heaven on earth for you once you can just sign up with them. Offers you should be wary of include guaranteed interview on submission of application or an assured job. Airlines hire based on an individual’s competence, inter-personal relationship, technical skills and years of flight experience. Most importantly is the airline's need for new pilots. Unfortunately, hiring agencies do not help matters. Speaking of flight experience, some schools will offer you automatic employment as a flight instructor if this is what you wish to become. Others can further train you to achieve a higher standing as a Flight Instructor.
Regardless of which flight school you choose, you still will get the required flight training certificates if you are serious at your training and if only you can perform well. Then you will not need the so-called connections as the companies themselves will come after you with genuine and mouth-watering offers. However, choosing a good school can make your flight training experience enjoyable, as opposed to the widely held notion of flying being a boring task. All you need is the interest, patience and perseverance, you will surely get there. Then you would look back to see that the entire journey to being a Pilot was actually an easy one.
