Flights :: Flights Europe :: Flights Romania

A brief history of Romania may interest those who wish to take a vacation to this quaint, quiet city. Very cheap flights are available to the Romanian Republic located in South Eastern Europe. Romania is well embedded as it is bordered on the north by Ukraine; to the east by Moldova; towards the south-east by the Black Sea; by the south by Bulgaria; on the south-west by Serbia; and finally at the west by Hungary. The country is home to a few cheap flights coming in from other European cities and continents as well. Bucharest is the capital and the largest city which is also a hotspot for tourists who have a soft spot for history. Timing and season are two very important criteria to be taken into consideration when planning a visit to Romania because dirt cheap flights are likely to be offered during these times.

Little known Bucharest is the grand capital of Romania, a city that has gradually been restored back to its former glory since the last surviving regime of inhumanity was overthrown in the late eighties. Bucharest, being the largest city enjoys many advantages as cheap and direct flights from most major cities fly to its airports. However, with effect from the first quarter of 2006, cheap, direct flights will begin to operate to Timisoara; another major city and a commercial cum industrial center in Romania. Bucharest has two well known international airports, both of which have been renamed in recent times but there are currently no regular scheduled flights from the United Kingdom and only a few from Europe.

Really, there are only very few major budget airlines offering cheap flights to Bucharest from major airports, owing to the fact that Romania has not yet joined the European Union (EU). As Romania hopes to prepare towards securing its EU membership in 2007, and as the country continues with its extensive tourism promotion drive, it’s only a matter of time before Bucharest is picked up on the no-frills radar of cheap flights to its international airports. A huge expansion of dirt cheap flights to Romania is expected as from 2007, when it joins the European Union. Central European budget airline, Wizzair Airlines has long been offering very cheap flights to Bucharest. Henri Coanda International Airport situated in a Romanian sub-urban area, is Bucharest's main airport and the hub for cheap flights for Romanian national airline Tarom.

Bucharest's original Baneasa airport, now renamed, is set to become a low-cost hub and is close to the city centre. Another main city, which is known for its industrial activities is Timisoara; a town in western Romania with grand and justifiable plans to become one of Eastern Europe's next major destinations as can be seen from the number of passengers trooping into the city. Cheap new flights to Timisoara have just begun from London’s Stansted Airport, through Carpat Air’s flight services. Timisoara is already well linked with numerous cities in Italy, but these cheap flights are generally operated by low-cost, budget airlines, whereas scheduled connections are available through cities such as Vienna and Budapest. Although connecting flights to Timisoara are also available through Bucharest, this option should be avoided where possible, considering that the city is over two hundred and fifty miles to the west of the Romanian capital.

As for where to stay in Romania, hotels in Romania are not difficult to come by in all the major cities and towns. These are top hotels like JW Marriott and Capitol Hotels. Some of these hotels have indoor swimming, fitness center, massage, steam bath, squash courts, room service, dry cleaning, laundry, business center, parking, banquet facilities, smoking rooms, safety deposit boxes and tennis courts nearby. Most cheap flight packages have one or more options of hotels. From the bustling capital of Bucharest to its imposing Palace, shops, hotels, museums and majestic buildings spread around its wide streets to the mountain resorts where in the winter, you can ski and in the summer, visit the many famous monasteries or animals living in their natural habitats. Black Sea coast has many beaches just for you, the Danube Delta too with its beautiful scenery and abundance of nature like its plant, bird and animal life. You sure can’t miss the next flight to Romania because it has already been made affordably cheap.
